Blog Number 15 - Gerard Butler photo - King Leonidas of Sparta in Frank Millers '300' movie

Here's a photo of Gerard Butler who is going to portray King Leonidas of Sparta in Frank Miller's '300'. This photo was taken recently at the Toronto International Film Festival and since '300' will start shooting very soon, it seems as if King Leonidas will have a beard which is different than Richard Egan's portrayal of Leonidas in 1962's, 'The 300 Spartans'.

Thanks to Joyce and JunieMoon for the photo.

I'm a fan of Gerard Butler's and have been for some time. His portrayals in movies such as Phantom of the Opera, Dear Frankie, The Game of Their Lives, and Beowulf & Grendel show his great talent and diversity. He can be tender and romantic in one movie and a sword-wielding mercenary in another. Warner Bros. is grooming him for "big" things and he will deliver the acting "goods". Not only does he look great onscreen but his talent has no limits. Am I enthusiastic about this actor? You bet -- and I plan to be the first in line for this movie! Thanks for keeping us up to date.

Hi Arion~

Thanks for the compliment! I think that G.B. will do great in the role of King Leonidas of Sparta.

Incidentally, you'll be standing behind someone else in line and that will be me!

Cheers and thanks again,

John

Not only is Gerard insanely sexy (wont even go into that) but hes a fantastic actor and will most certainly make an amazing king. I'll be third in line!! I can't waiitt for this movie to start shooting and of course for it to come out. Like Arion said, Gerry is a very versatile actor and he has played so many different roles I think he will do a fantastic job as King Leonidas! I'm definitely psyched for this movie!!!!

Hi Julia~

I think they picked the right actor for King Leonidas and can't wait to see the movie; it's a long time coming!

There looks like there's going to be a scrum to see who gets in line first!

Cheers,

John

I've been a Gerry Butler fan for a while, and a Frank Miller fan for a very long time... Back when he's was still working on his now distinctive style (before his first published comic.) I look forward to see how this compares as an adaptation of the Battle of Thermopylae.

I'll be behind you guys pushing who ever falls out of the scrum back in ;)

You football hooligans!

While awaiting the release of "300", I might recommend the movie TIMELINE. Directed by Richard (Superman) Donner from a book by Michel Chrichton. Gerry plays the heroic archeologist Andre Marek. He gets to go back in time and battle the English for a French Citadel using a sword and bows and arrows. Plus he gets to blow stuff up and romance the girl. A not unpleasant way to spend a bit of time on a rainy afternoon.
