Blog Number 2 - Zack Snyder to direct 'Frank Miller's '300' movie

Several months ago, I read that Zack Snyder would be directing '300' which would be based on Frank Miller & Lynn Varley's 5-part eponymous comic book series. Since '300' is based on the Battle of Thermopylae, I was very much elated, to say the least.

After being disappointed numerous times about the constant speculation surrounding Steven Pressfield's excellent book 'Gates of Fire', it was terrific to hear that a movie would be made once again about the 300 Spartans. The way I looked at it was, whether or not a movie about the 300 Spartans was based on fact or fiction, it didn't concern me as long as it brought the story of the heroic Spartan warriors to the big screen.

If you've read Frank Miller's '300' would you rather have it stay truthful to the author's version, or would you rather see a historically accurate movie of the battle?

Well, since they are doing Miller's 300, I think they should be true to it. Even with its flaws, it is stunningly told and filled with unforgettable images.

Pressfield's book could still be done in a year or two and -- seen from the angle of a slave in the battle -- it would be an interesting movie on its own. I would go see it.

Greetings Arion~

I couldn't agree more! What is wrong with 2 movies within a couple of years telling the same story. Since they did it with 'Tombstone' & 'Wyatt Earp', they can certainly do it about the 300 Spartans!

John

What to do? When I want a historical accuracy,I will study history in the library. What I need is another creative, evolved movie version. It would be great if the film version surpass the original work.I think this issue has a resemblance to 'Phantom of The Opera'which already had an excellent stage version.

G'day Miyuki~

I'm glad that '300' is being filmed and if it is entertaining which I believe it will be, it will inspire those who enjoyed the movie to read the true story.

Thank you for your comment!

Cheers,

John

Hi John,
I'll buy a stopover ticket of Frank Miller's 300 which should take us to our goal and entertain us with increasingly dramatic sequences.

It looks as if there will much more added to the movie than appears in the book, therefore, '300' should be one interesting movie to watch.

Cheers,

John
